Italianate: Houses of the Haight
The unique houses of the Haight District in San Francisco are depicted in all their color and slendor on this sculpture.
I went to San Francisco and studied the houses during several visits. The details are realistic, even though seem some "very unusual".
Here I am working on this extremely time-consuming project. It is oil on birch, 52 inches long, and 24 inches tall and stands out 9 inches. The nine inch "valleys" are a challenge to paint.
In the photo you can see the "near plane" with the Golden Gate bridge. This plane is closet to the viewer, but because it is painted in reverse perspective, it appears furthest away when viewed.
